From Face to Face

My first Super 8 film.

Black and white slides of five men's faces; objects of desire, pedagogue, young lover, old flame, are re-filmed to varying rhythms on Super 8 film, and momentarily brought back to life. The b/w sequences are cross cut with colour images shot from the window of a moving train from Clapham Junction to Wandsworth. A clown (Alain André) applies make-up and comments on male vanity in French. Alain mimics the four men having their pictures taken, to directions from off-screen. The film returns to black and white, trees in the wind. A crowd leaves the station platform. A favourite Bach prelude played on an out of tune piano, eradicates the femme commentary on the men's photogenic attributes on the original Super 8 edge track. The hair styles lend the film an arcane, 'deux ou trois choses que je sais de lui', quality.

Starring Alain André, Martin, David Medalla, Karel Zuvaç, Sandy Spencer.
Anna Thew on camera and piano.
b/w slides - Afga Dia Direct. Super 8 - Kodak 40 sound film.
