Fragments for Eye Drift - Al Saqi Books Installation

an installation with video monitor, drawings, texts, books and photographs, including a broken glass and a bowl of plums in AL SAQI BOOKS window.

A continuous video loop from the projected double screen 16mm film Fragments for Eye Drift was shown on a TV monitor in Al Saqi Books window, as part of an installation containing panels, drawings, sketches, diaries, legal texts, witness statements, books (Michael Kohlhaas by Heinrich von Kleist, and Das Waisenhaus by Hubert Fichte), photographs, WWII reconnaissance stereoscopes, and other physical fragments, including a broken glass, a piece of bevelled mirror, butterfly's wings and a bowl of plums. Anna Thew empties her studio and exposes the bare bones of her film process of drawing, writing, gathering, gleaning and collaging, for a film touching on war, disease and destruction. The bookshop window is by the local bus stop.

Local Artists at Al Saqi, curated by Mai Ghoussoub and Shaheen Merali. Catalogue with texts by Guy Brett translated into Arabic by Mai Ghoussoub.
