My Blood Self: High Noon

My Blood Self is a new body of work based on the idea of an editorial fashion shoot that references imagery of genocide and substandard poverty, juxtaposed with historical images from the Egyptian and Mesoamerica civilizations.

This piece deals with the consequences of the North American Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, Canada and U.S.A which was implemented in 1994 and the continued low intensity warfare waged against the indigenous people of Chiapas by the Mexican government. The symbolic imagery of a bloody struggle between the artist hands and a bucket of ripe tomatoes highlights the struggle between the personal (local farmers) and the global trade mandates brought in by the NAFTA.
