Journeys North: Postcards from the North

Journeys North is a new series filmed in Alaska examining how the indigenous tribes of the Arctic and their culture was forever changed by the explorers and pioneers of the 18th and 19th century and the early ethnographic filmmaking that followed in their wake.

POSTCARDS FROM THE NORTH is a silent video painting consisting of a single video projection the size of a standard postcard 10 x 15 cm. It shows the housing of modern Alaska which is similar in architectural style to those buildings found in Peter Doig's paintings of Canada. It continues Ndiritu's idea of trying to capture an image of the ideal place through a picture perfect postcard image which began in the video AN IDEALIZED HISTORY.
