The Bad Sister

...aspects of The Bad Sister emphasise the theme of the unconscious. The narrative structure continually focuses on Jane's mind through her tape diary - which the male video maker calls "a message written in code." Furthermore, within the dramatisations of her life, there is a continual shift between conscious and unconscious thought, between dream and waking states, between imagination and reality. Clare Johnston has stated that "a desire for change" in woman's art "can only come about by drawing on fantasy", and clearly, in The Bad Sister, this is what Mulvey and Wollen attempt to do.
