Running Light

Lis Rhodes' work searches for the as yet unrevealed exodus, the endless travelling from place to place forced upon people.

She films places which have been abandoned, devasted by their emptiness, perhaps it is an immigrant camp, where an electric light still burns. In this wilderness a fragmented narration is phrases, words which fall upon one another, all pointing to a clandestine movement of people displaced, full of fear, persecuted and dehumanised. Through sensitive editing the soundtrack perfectly expresses its meaning even within the rhythm of her voice.

taken from 'Exils' by Maria Klonaris & Katerina Thomadaki, Exodes, Cinema l'Ecran de Saint-Denis, Paris, March 2002.
