Do You Know This Place

In a municipal park near the gallery an area of lawn 12"X12" was lifted and the topsoil transported into the gallery, where it was placed to dry out beneath a sheet of suspended perspex. The perspex, hung at an angle above the topsoil, was inscribed with hieroglyphs relating to the definition of the works title. The area of park scarred by the removal of the grass was then covered with chain link fencing for the duration of the exhibition. Over this period the soil in the gallery dried out to reveal small items of debris. On the closing day the question of the works title was written on the excavated surface with fine ground stone quarried from the location, before returning the topsoil and grass.
